Check the file before flashing

The SHA-256 values are calculated from the unmodified files, after checking upstream's published MD5 and compressed-file integrity. These legacy hashes were checked against complete original files. Downloads now link directly upstream. Hashes identify bytes; physical compatibility is a separate test.

Compare the entire result with the checksum for your exact filename. A matching hash does not establish that old system packages remain supported.

Choose the right card

The compressed download is smaller than the written image. The manifest records each expanded size. Use a card with enough capacity and room for your own content; the flashing process erases the selected device. Follow the getting-started guide and verify your target carefully.

What about Raspberry Pi 5?

There is no tested image from this independent project yet. Upstream has automated Bookworm development builds for Pi 5, including a 64-bit variant. They are not upstream's supported stable releases. Read the Pi 5 research and testing plan before experimenting.
