Troubleshooting

HDMI resolution or display problems

The picture is cropped, missing or uses an unexpected resolution.

Start here

  1. Check the display’s own aspect-ratio and overscan settings.
  2. Try a known-good cable and a single standard display mode.
  3. Record the OS and where the problem appears: console, frontend or one emulator.
  4. Use display guidance for that OS; back up configuration before editing it.
What usually causes this?

Display mode selection, overscan or a cable/display limitation.

Advanced explanation

Modern KMS and older display stacks use different settings. Copying an old config.txt fragment may create a second problem.
